Soul / Funk / Disco LPs

I use the Record Collector standard to grade my records – as below:

M is ONLY for reissues / new releases
M- is a pretty much unplayed record for me – any obvious signs that a record has been played and I usually downgrade to an EX+
EX+ is a very strong grade for me – just showing some signs of being played but no noise / cue burn / crackle / styrene burn at all.
VG+ is for records that have obviously seen some wear and have had a good few plays and may even have light intro crackle but play very, very well.
VG is for records with quite a bit of wear and surface markings and some noise / crackle but still a very good player
VG- is my lowest grade and VG- records for me are in bad shape – lots of sound quality deterioration and many, many surface marks – not nice.

( What can ya say about Blowfly? God knows how he got away with it back then – it wouldn’t be ‘allowed’ now…loadsa breaks / beats / samples all over this..sampled by MANY in Hip Hop including: Eazy E, Mixmaster Spade, The Avalanches etc etc…sleeve is a bit rough but the vinyl is very, very clean… )

Chocolate Milk ‘Action Speaks Louder Than Words’ (RCA / USA / 1975 / Ex+/M-) £40 £20

( Cleanest copy I’ve EVER had, and I’ve had a few over the past 20 years, believe me…’Time Machine’ on here is just one of THE most ‘cosmic’ cuts ever laid down, total genius – and, of course, the title track ain’t bad either…99% UNPLAYED COPY… )

D.D. Sound ‘D.D. Sound – Burning Love’ (Baby / Italy / 1977 / Ex+/M-) £20 £10

( New one on me? Have seen this on a few Want Lists down the years but never actually been able to get one to sell…exquisite copy, seems unplayed and is still in it’s shrinkwrap….very Rinder & Lewis in sound – loadsa strings, floating bass and keys runs – of it’s time with long, long runs of bass, drum and percussion sounds – if somebody told me this was a Patrick Adams / P&P joint, I’d have no trouble at believing em…’Disco Bass’ , ‘Let’s Share Love’ etc were all worthy – only 5 cuts here so obviously cut nice and brightly too – great stuff.. )

( Sleazy Porno beatz on the intro to ‘The Rill Thing’ which has been used by Lord Finesse, Pete Nice and Pete Rock – you name it – truly ruff Drums…first one in since early 2003…very fair price here, I normally ask / get £20 on this… )

Bobby Womack ‘Roads Of Life’ (Arista / UK / 1979 / VG+/Ex) £12 £6

( Sad to hear that BW ain’t been too well lately…I hate to have to say it but I ain’t a big Bobby Womack fan – his voice grates on me a bit + I don’t always like his ‘sound’ – know what I mean? It’s a bit too ‘Southern’ for me – BUT – not this LP – this is simply solid – so many tracks – ‘How Could You Break My Heart’ , ‘Give It Up’ , ‘The Roots In Me’ , ‘The Roads Of Life’ etc etc – pure quality – UK issue copy…few creases / slight ringwear to sleeve – vinyl much better… )

Charles Wright ‘Rhythm And Poetry’ (WB / USA / 1972 / VG+/Ex+) £8 £4

( Not had this LP on CW before…it’s all about the long ‘Run, Jody Run’ track here which is over 13:00 mins long…huge funky workout which meanders all over the place…new one on me…wax is A-1…top seam has 4” split…. )
