Resolution Records Set Sale List Saturday November 13th, 2010:

Hi again Vinyl Vultures,

Back again with a whole LOAD of great new rare stuff to offer you all…over 225 brand new items just uploaded below…!! All items listed below now have either their own ‘unique’ scan/soundfile link which I’ve provided myself – or – a link to the best Youtube entry I could find. Where possible, there will be a link to an actual image of the item itself on Youtube as well as a clip. It became impossible time-wise to offer unique scans / files for each and every item – life’s too short, so Youtube came to my rescue.

Ordering / Shipping / Payment info at end the of the list.

SOUNDFILES – PLEASE NOTE!! My own ‘unique’ soundfiles are all taken from the actual copy/s of the record offered for sale but 99% of MP3s don’t always sound so good – this is unavoidable. MP3s are so highly compressed that the quality drops whilst also highlight even the tiniest flaws and minor defects in the records but these are NOT scratches/clicks so please do NOT take this as a sign that the records are in bad condition because they are not. Even M- and unplayed stuff doesn’t sound great because of the compression – my written gradings are a more reliable condition guide being 100% honest and as accurate as I can make them so please read them carefully.

List categories are set out as below, and, if you feel I’m too expensive on anything, just make me a ‘fair’ offer – you never know…

(1) 7? singles – all genres:

Bobby Penn ‘High-Heel Sneakers’ (50 States / USA / 1960s / M-) £10

( New one on me? Excellent, upbeat ‘Swamp-Funk’ version of the old Robert Higgenbottom classic here – really works well – excellent girlie backing and a great, raspy vocal performance from Bobby himself…stone, STONE mint DJ copy… )

7001 – scan | soundfile

Alvin Cash ‘Doin’ The Creep’ (77 / USA / 1960s / M-) £10

( Again – new one to me…and I thought I’d had / seen all of this ‘Funk Masters’ 7” output but nice to be surprised here – great cut with twanging guitar and solid r-section – cool girlie vocals too – must say the wah-wahs on this are ace…stone mint M/S WD copy here too…. )

7002 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgpugL6PNjM

Lenny Williams ‘Sho Doo Fu Fu Ooh’ / ‘Problem Solver’ (ABC / UK / 1977 / Ex+) £5

( Nice copy of this much-loved Northern Soul / 70s ‘feelgood’ tune – was HUGE on that scene as a new release… )

7003 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyIcwrX5V6I&feature=fvsr

Ray Charles ‘I Don’t Need No Doctor’ (ABC / USA / 1960s / VG+) £15

( First copy of this in a few years now – still a stunning, stunning 45 – just an instant floorfiller – looks a bit rough but plays more like an Ex copy with only very minimal crackle here and there…TUNE…………with The Raelettes sounding mighty FINE on the backing too… )

7004 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AZMxDhUZEs

Alan Copeland ‘Mission: Impossible Theme’ (ABC / USA / 1960s / VG+) £30

( Unusual one!! First-timer for me – crazy tune that mixes up Lalo’s ‘Mission Impossible’ backing track with The Beatles ‘Norweigan Wood’ sung over the top – sounds like a musical ‘car crash’ I know, but, grab a listen and try telling me it doesn’t work? Excellent scat vocals and there’s even a twisted organ solo midway in – like the kinda thing Barbara Moore was doing in the late-60s…recommended…few scuffs here and there – plays wonderfully…was reserved but not paid for last time so I’m now relisting it…SO RARE… )

7005 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-Gn486KQlg

Bobby Scott ‘Pity The Poor Man’ / ‘White Line’ (ABC Paramount / USA / 1960s / Ex) £15

( Outstanding, raucous, full-on R&B double-sider – from 1962 at a guess? Great backing from Don Costa and an exemplary vocal performance from BS on both sides – would sound SO great on a big system…few crackles here and there but nuttin’ major – turn the volume UP….!! )

7006 – scan | soundfile

Mongo Santamaria ‘Teminha Para Bebe’ / ‘Last Tango In Paris’ (Accion / Soain / 1973 / Ex+/Ex+) £8

( New one on me – spanking little Jazz Funk workout from MS on totally this totally obscure Spanish label – excellent tune… )

7007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahM0gukqnSc

Intimate Strangers ‘Love Sounds’ / ‘The Track’ (Alaska / UK / 1975 / Ex+) £30

( Lovely copy….always been a ‘mare to track down – great version to Rita Wright’s ‘Touch Me, Take Me’ biggie – more instrumental than that one with just breathy femme vox over a solid backing and with a neat Drumbreak intro too – flip is pure instrumental – wonderful strings and superb guitar work – a peach…!! )

7008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m48wpxFPHQU

The Virtues ‘Meditation Of The Soul’ (Andee / USA / 1960s / VG+) £15

( I’ve no idea who / what inspired these Phillysoul journeymen to write a “Sitar Funk” tune but I’m very glad they did….I have a dream of one day doing a whole ‘sitar’ set with stuff like this and Dave Pike ‘Mathar’, Dorothy Ashby ‘The Moving Finger’, Asha Puthli, Ananda Shankar etc etc – one day, I will…few marks / scuffs on this but it plays one while grade better than VG+…irresistible… )

7009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIUzuSOIDic

Beverley & Duane ‘Take A Ride’ (Ariola / USA / 1979 / Ex) £8

( For me – this is THE best cut on their indemand LP – lovely, lovely little floater which just sucks you in after a few spins – totally infectious 70s Northern that always goes down well when played out – few scuffs and marks here and there cause minor, minor crackle here and there but in no way impinges on the overall enjoyment of this superb 70s Soul tune… )

7010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvF93eHTxGk

The Stringfield Family ‘The Sound Of Disco’ / ‘The Stringfield Hustle’ (Arrest / USA / 1975 / M-) £40

( Rare, rare indie disco double-sider outta Washington, D.C. which really goes off….topside is a full-on Philly / MFSB-styled workout which pumps the love out while the flip is more subtle and reminded me immediately of Tommy Stewart’s killer ‘Fulton County Line’ from his peerless ‘Bump N’ Hustle Music’ LP on Abraxas – cannot recommend this one highly enough – it’s even got a bit of disco flute in it…………oh boy!! Appears 99% unplayed… )

7011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0-2iH-PXDA

Willie Rosario ‘Watusi Boogaloo’ (Atco / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £40

( Willie wrote the book on Latin dance! This man was a Big Apple L-E-G-E-N-D back in the 60s and it’s so refreshing to see stuff like this getting played in clubs again – joyful, irrepressible and completely evocative tune that is just impossible to dislike – beautiful WDJ copy here – flew out last time I listed it…

7012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx4SYeB2UAM

Aretha Frankin ‘Save Me’ (Atlantic / UK / 1967 / VG) £5

( I was reading about ‘Lady Soul’ online a few days back and the writer described here as ‘THE greatest voice of the 20th Century’ – difficult to argue against that statement, as this tune will testify. Just unmissable – and again, impossible to sit still when this kicks in. Sadly this one’s not in great shape – scuffs / marks all over and the middle has been dinked bit it’s still a great player…mighty tune…. )

7013

Ruth Brown ‘I Burned Your Letter’ / ‘Don’t Deceive Me’ (Atlantic / USA / 1960s / Ex) £20
( Ditto the above – another GREAT voice – unmistakeable vocal technique and here on a stone-gold classic slice of good time R&B – just brilliant and I’m now beginning to love some of this early-Soul stuff – it really is like a breath of fresh air…few marks / scuffs here and there but has very little effect on the sound quality….love it…. )

7014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXZN4T-o4xQ

Donny Hathaway ‘Valdez In The Country’ (Atlantic / UK / 1973 / Ex+) £8

( A goodie to be able to offer on 7” – from the much-sampled intro break to the lovely keys and much-copied refrain – oh boy – this is just so warm and lovely – excellent copy and even nicer on a heavily-pressed UK 7”….the man was a talent…. )

7015 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faLu0MReeEg

Rufus Harley ‘Chim Chim Cheree’ / ‘Bagpipe Blues’ (Atlantic / USA / 1960s / M-) £10

( Rare Atlantic Jazz 7” release for the best 2 tracks from this guy’s insane ‘Scotch & Soul’ LP – his take on Jazz was so unusual – how many bagpipe-playing Jazz musicians can there be in the world? Not many…’Mary Poppins’ never sounded like this before…!! WD promo copy too – unplayed… )

7016 – scan | soundfile

John Edwards ‘Claim Jumpin’ / ‘Careful Man’ (Aware / USA / 1973 / Ex+) £8

( 2 good tunes from John – one written by Sam Dees / Bill Brandon and the other by Jimmy Lewis – lovely copy here… )

7017 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dk2bFaOc5dI

Rosko ‘Peacemaker’ (AZ / France / 1973 / VG+/Ex+) £15

( Not had one of these in years – crazy French tune from old cheesy 70s DJ Emperor Rosko which is basically him talking turkey over a very, very funky ‘2001’ – such a good/unusual/brilliant little 45 – sleeve is a bit worn but mostly okay – vinyl is good – few scuffs here and there but otherwise nice….TUNE………

7018 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzHkpXGDrxg

Executive Suite ‘When The Fuel Runs Out’ / ‘You Got It’ (Babylon / USA / 1973 / M-) £10

( Outstanding ‘Proto-Disco’ outta NYC – strong shades of early Patrick Adams / Cloud One here – all pumping basslines and quirky keys and floating vibes (Vince Montana, Jr? Sounds like him…) flip is also ace – unplayed copy here… )

7019 http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Executive+Suite+%E2%80%98When+The+Fuel+Runs+Out%E2%80%99+&aq=f

Nite Magic Band ‘Disco Ain’t Got No Life’ (Baldwin / USA / 1979 / M-) £25

( Cool to be able to offer a few rare / interesting Disco 45s again – this one’s outta Philly and is definitely ‘later’ rather than ‘proto’ but is none the worse for it – again, loadsa off-key synths and nutty Moogs – it’s all programmed / sequenced but that’s how we like em round here – check those Cosmic syndrums…appears unplayed… )

7020 – scan | soundfile

Francois De Roubaix ‘Astralement Votre’ (Barclay / France / 1975 / M-/M-) £40

( Mosta this guy’s output merits a listen and this one’s no exception – hard to pigeonhole but I’d definitely put this in my “Cosmic” shopping bag. As the title suggests – it’s all spacey stuff with heavy clavs, floaty keys and whirly FX and is completely “unique” in it’s won way – would definitely grace somebody’s collection…I don’t normally bother mentioning stuff like this but the woman on the back of the sleeve is possibly THE most stunningly beautiful female I’ve EVER clapped eyes on…?! Whoosh…

7021 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaG5tVVrX3Y

Jho Archer ‘Natural Woman’ / ‘Call On Me’ (Barclay / France / 1974 / M-/M-) £25

( Beautiful, beautiful 70s funky soul cut on Jho – so floaty and catchy with shuffling rhythms and excellent, muted brass – really unusual and the man’s vocals are also a treat – flip is also well worth a spin but isn’t as good as the topside – stunning condition here for both vinyl and sleeve… )

7022 – scan | soundfile

The Glitter Band ‘Makes You Blind’ (Bell / 1975 / UK / Ex+) £8

( Always makes me smile whenever this one turns up – ya just cannot imagine a band so completely uncool as these boys were EVER producing a tune as good as this is – people LOVE this, FACT!! It’s even been booted onto a 12” in N.Y.C – sampled / cut up / copied all over the shop – it’s how A.W.B would’ve sounded like had they ever REALLY let rip…the only real problem with this is that it’s too short – I’d like it to go on for 10 mins myself…deceptively hard to find, people…this copy’s close to M- but I also have a VG+ copy that I can do for £6…for the less fussy amongst you… )

7023 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqnQXzDfKwo

The Dynamics ‘You’re The Only One’ / ‘Woe Is Me’ (Black Gold / USA / 1974 / M-) £10

( 2 of THE best cuts from their rare / indemand ‘What A Shame’ LP – excellent Soul music…. )

7024 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnwjod-Qbms

Donald Byrd ‘Change (Makes You Wanna Hustle) Pts 1 & 2’ (Blue Note / UK / 1976 / Ex+) £8

( Peachy to have this one in on a 7” – must be rare!!?? Blue Note hardly ever put out 7”s…and this is just a big, long, lovely ride on the Mizell Bros bus all the way round the World and then back to Don Byrd’s studio – few marks here and there but plays reet good – Mizells = Genius = Happy Mark Rez… )

7025 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBVgRuUwkVk

Orchestra Franco Micalizzi ‘Je T’Aime…Moi Non Plus’ (Broadway / Italy / 1969 / VG+/Ex+) £10

( Rare One!! Hard Euro-only version of the Serge Gainsbourg / Jane Birkin smash (from the same year!) with vocals from the one and only….Edda….!! Tuff beats and excellent organ splashes give this a definite edge over the many other versions doing the rounds – I’ve definitely never run into this one before…sleeve has a few creases / light wear but wax is close to perfect…relisted this month cos somebody reserved it last list but was unable to pay…

7026

South Side Coalition ‘Don’t You Wanna Get Down, Get Down’ / ‘The Power-Play’ (Brown Dog / USA / 1975 / M-) £20

( More Tommy Stewart goodness – he’s allover these sides….the man’s touch in the Studio was sublime – he makes those Moogs sing – topside is just outstanding – total synth-disco/funk with brilliant male/female vocal interplay while the flip is pure instrumental with a coupla slamming Drumbreaks in there – again, like the Glitter Band earlier on, these sides are just too short – no 12” of this exists…sob sob…;-((( Wonderful condition… )

7027 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOACIjt8jms

Young-Holt Unlimited ‘California Montage’ (Brunswick / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £10

( Excellent little string-laden instrumental from this talented trio – pure Windy City magic – popular on the Northern scene as an “ender” back in the Blacpool Mecca days – lovely copy here…’Straight Ahead’ on flip is also absolutely superb – great, great double-sider… )

7028 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY71EkaniWY

American Gypsy ‘Angel Eyes’ / ‘‘Lady Eleanor’ (BTM / UK / 1975 / Ex+) £15

( Love, love, LOVE this 45 and I’ll be sad to see it go but needs must…both sides absolutely killer – topside more uptempo and funk-rock with a stunning vocal performance from Steve Clisby but it’s the flip that really gets me – just so evocative and deep – man sounds like he’s going thru total breakdown as he chokes the lyrics out…! Few marks here and there but nothing too intrusive – so, so tough to find on this OG UK 7” press…. )

7029 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNccAAIP3k0&playnext=1&list=PL12C9C4FDB25A09D0&index=89

Midnight Movers ‘Can’t Stand The Heat’ / ‘Mississippi Foxhole’ (Buddah / France / 1974 / Ex+/M-) £8

( Nice French pic baggie issue for these 2 great Funky Soul cuts….lovely condition… )

7030 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDRo1La1swk&playnext=1&list=PLFE4F58D82A42975C&index=42

Cecil Garrett & The Fascinations ‘Bearcat Pts 1 & 2’ (Calla / USA / 1960s / M-) £40

( Nice to have a few things I’ve never had before this list – and here’s another one…pure raunchy Funky R&B on this great old label – exemplary backing with horns high in the mix and CG’s vocals sleazing around in the background…just a complete Club winner and the band REALLY get the chance to show off on Pt 2…recommended, sincerely… )

7031 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUkMXSxHN8c

Johnny Thunder ‘I’m Alive’ (Calla / USA / 1960s / M-) £30

( Best version by a MILE for me – fuzz-drenched and raucous – Johnny gives it LARGE here….stunning condition – massive Mod tune from day dot – don’t miss this…!! )

7032 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ_wzLVhJSs

The Reflections ‘She’s My Summer Breeze’ (Capitol / USA / 1975 / Ex+) £10

( Well – the weather just now is about as far as it gets from being summery so I thought I’d drop this one in to warm you all up…man-oh-man – 2 Step Soul don’t GET deeper than this…talk about painful vocals!! This man sounds like he’s had his heart torn out and then saw it get drop-kicked off a ten storey building!! Well – I’d expect no less from J.R Bailey and Ken Williams who between them wrote and produced this little masterpiece. Trust me, this is LEGEND black music – detuned strings, wailing backing vox and bubbling basslines – it just *does* things to me…, know what I mean? Recommended, sincerely…few surface marks and light crackle – nothing major here… )

7033 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_07eRtx_4OU

Lou Rawls ‘You’ve Made Me So Very Happy’ (Capitol / UK / 1970 / M- £15

( Stand up Sir David of Axelrod…!! Oh boy – whattatune – now then, believe it or not, I ain’t Lou Rawls’s biggest fan – I sometimes find his voice a bit too ‘saccharine sweet’ but it works here cos he keeps it under control and doesn’t go into the cheesy higher registers too often…I think Ax’ musta had a word in the Studio and told him to ‘keep it real’….LOL…ya know I love Axelrod’s work and a lot of his studio trademarks are on display here – little delays, muted brass, conga rolls – it’s all there – and – better still is the fact that this is a magnificent Green/White big ‘A’ Capitol demo in 99% unplayed condition too – beautiful, beautiful piece…I also have an Ex USA copy for £8 in case somebody wants this but doesn’t wanna splash £15 on one…looks a bit rough but plays very, very well… )

7034 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY_LJr3-jl0

A Taste Of Honey ‘I Love You’ (Capitol / UK / 1979 / Ex) £8

( From the harp-led intro with the big string washes right thru to the strident guitar part and hooky piano, as soon as this kicks in you KNOW you are in for a happy 3.5 minutes of listening pleasure…this List is becoming a right old ‘Mark Rez Fave Producers Special’, innit? Tommy Stewart, David Axelrod, Patrick Adams and NOW here come those Mizells again – just pure, pure Studio magic on this track – it’s making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up now just listening to this as I type!! Wonderful 45 that truly doesn’t come up for sale too often and on an even rarer demo too – slightly crackly here and there so keenly priced for y’awl…T-U-N-E…………… )

7035 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS1hh3eIliw

Cannonball Adderley’s Soul Zodiac ‘Taurus’ / ‘Scorpio’ (Capitol / USA / 1972 / M-) £15

( This 7” was only EVER promo-only – it never got a proper release…David Axelrod AGAIN….!! OMG! The man was everywhere in the late-60s / early-70s…love, love, LOVE this 45 – two of THE strongest tracks from the ever-indemand ‘Soul Zodiac’ LP and Rick Holmes narration is just completely ethereal – again – Ax’ is the Studio Master here and directs all around him…simply exquisite…99% unplayed… )

7036 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs-MhicleDg

William Sheller ‘Erotissimo + 2’ (CBS EP / France / 1969 / M-/Ex+) £50

( Seems every record this guy made was/is worth a packet? I’ve not seen hide nor hair of his mega-rare/indemand ‘Lux Aeterna’ LP in years and years now either – and – this is only the second-ever copy of this one I’ve ever had too!! 3 Killer Psyche / Fuzz groovers which really are unique-sounding – this is the soundtrack to a movie – wow – musta been one hell of a movie if the music is anything to go by!! All tracks are absolutely exceptional but I’ve clipped ‘Excitissimo’ here cos I think it’s the one with broadest appeal – what a break…!! Exemplary condition… )

7037 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0jNg2uxmyA

‘Banda Black Rio ‘Som Nosso De Cada Dia’ (CBS / Brazil / 1978 / VG+) £30

( Nice 7? that was mixed in by DJ Nuts in his “Cultura Copia” mix – great Jazz / Funk / Fusion cut which kills it…coolly mastered @ 33 RPM )

7038 http://www.4shared.com/audio/d2AaVjLA/Banda_Black_Rio_-_Som_Nosso_de.html

The Eddy Jacobs Exchange ‘Love (Your Pain Goes Deep)’ (Columbia / USA / 1970 / Ex+) £15

( From the same outfit that gave us the Killer Deep Funker ‘Pull My Coat’ and this one’s really good too – not out and out Funk though – but definitely Soul with a Funk “edge” if that means anything….also arranged by that great talent, Harry Whittaker, who worked extensively with Roy Ayers – this one really surprised me when I put it on – just a superb vocal performance from Eddy J here and some stunning girlie backing with some awesome wah-wah guitar work in the background – actually sounds like Jimi Hendrix is in the Studio!! Grab a listen – superb tune – Mono / Stereo demo in nice general shape, few marks / scuffs here and there but nuttin too bad – a cracker….one of THE most interesting records on the whole List so far for me…as originally done by Frankie Beverley and the Butlers, of course… )

7039 – scan | soundfile

The Invaders ‘Stop Teasing’ / ‘Invaders At The Carnival’ (Columbia / France / 1960s / M-/M-) £25 £15

( Rare French pic sleeve for these 2 cool Laurel Aitken written-produced Skin Reggae sides – immaculate condition… )

7040 – scan | soundfile

Grand Strand ‘Laredo’ (Creative Arts / USA / 1970s / M-) £60

( South Carolina funk obscurity with a Modern Soul edge, flip is folk/funk soul. Still very unknown at the moment, could take off in the right hands…obscure as hell…great brass.. )

7041 – scan | soundfile

Soul On Delivery ‘Crescent Boogie’ / ‘Hustle (Dance Of The Day)’ (Decca / UK / 1975 / Ex+) £15

( More great UK Funk – both sides have their different merits – ‘Hustle’ is my fave with more of a driving beat and heavy basslines – ‘Crescent Boogie’ is more varied with some great brass, bass and drum parts and some cheeky strings – file alongside F.B.I, The Glitter Band, Cymande etc betc – absolute cracking Drumbreak on ‘Hustle’ too – a brilliant little double-sider…very, very tough to find…nice copy here… )

7042 – scan | soundfile

Sam Jacobs ‘Foxy’ / ‘Gotta Keep On Dancin’ (Dis-Go / USA / 1978 / Ex+) £75

( Off the clock, Jazz-tinged Modern Soul with a strong Funk edge. ‘Foxy’ was spun by Ian Wright on his very recent Jazzman Radio appearance and is a big spin for him, the flip is equally good….rare one… )

7043 – scan | soundfile

The Precisions ‘If This Is Love (I’d Rather Be Lonely)’ (Drew / USA / 1960s / VG+) £12

( Nice price here for a quality Northern classic – that intro will ALWAYS send shivers down my spine….has had many, many plays but sounds absolutely GREAT…. )

7044 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9lqDWHgEkw

Hot Butter ‘Getting Off’ / ‘Getting On’ (Dynamo / USA / 1975 / M-) £30

( Rare One!! Dunno if this is the same Hot Butter who did the weird Moog / Electronic / EZ gear over here in the UK (must be, I guess?) but this 45 is just something ELSE – next level etc etc – possibly THE Craziest / Moogiest / Druggiest record on the whole List and one I never EVER see for sale…just banging synths, granite-hard rhythm section and phlanged strings across both sides – just builds and builds – stone, STONE minter…OFF-THE-CLOCK and definitely not for the faint-hearted…as sampled / rinsed by David Holmes back in the day too… )

7045 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY–U145mlE

The Singin’ Fools ‘Love Is A Beautiful Thing’ (EMI / France / 1977 / M-/M-) £20

( Wow – the New Discoveries just keep on coming this List, right? Absolutely Stone Mint, unplayed copy of this…deep breath..Cosmic / Disco / Jazz / Funk / Orchestral / Sampledelic / Female / Vocal / Insane slab of otherwordliness – as ever, the best ones take some time to make an impact – check the clip here and tell me this ain’t good….? Wow wow wow… )

7046 – scan | soundfile

The Isley Brothers ‘Between The Sheets’ (voc/inst) (Epic / UK / 1983 / M-) £6

( Killer Isley’s groove and wasn’t much of a hit over here so didn’t chart and was deleted quick which it’s always been tough to find – solid gold sleaze on that “Porno Groove” tip – much-sampled bassline and keys in Hip Hop – most famously by Notorious B.I.G on ‘Big Poppa but also by legion other artists down the years – check it – baaaaad groove…stone minter here… )

7047 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glhdcJ7K3XM

Barbara Love ‘Across The Universe’ / ‘Alice’ (Epic / USA / 1970s / Ex+) £10

( We’ve not had any “barking mad” Fab Four covers round here for a while so here’s one for ya…West Coast ‘Sunshine Pop’-sounding, sitar-led version with wailing vox from Barbara (whoever she was…?) Interestingly ‘kooky’ – even more unusual Epic Radio Station demo copy here too… )

7048 – scan | soundfile

Pleasure ‘Ghettos Of The Mind’ (Fantasy / USA / 1976 / Ex) £8

( Csmic Jazz Funk from Wayne Henderson & Co – slightly ruff copy (tatty labels) so priced low….

7049 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Pw12Gw9VA

Floaters & Shu-Ga ‘For Your Love’ (Fee / USA / 1975 / Ex+) £15

( More lovely 2 Step Soul this List – and this one’s always been an indemander – has all of the classic ingredients for a good Stepper – deep, deep basslines, male / female vocal interplay and staccato backing + rising brass – cracking tune – my first-ever copy…sorry that this Youtube link is so lo-fi – it sounds very bright on my 7? here… )

7050 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EashRFcZCTw

Bendik Singers ‘Law Of The Land Pts 1 & 2’ (Flower / Norway / 1974 / Ex+) £75

( Rare Norwegian-only 45 that was reissued a good few years back by the MIGHTY Wah Wah records (Hi Dom!) Very rare on original 45 and a total killer to boot. Would go down well on many Soul / Funk / Psyche / Mod scenes…highly recommended tune that apparently was THE ‘must have’ Rare Groove spin in Norway a few years ago…exemplary copy here… )

7051 – scan | soundfile

Dotti Wright ‘Eclipse Of A Lover’ / ‘Pain Of Love’ (F-M / USA / 1960s / M-) £50

( 2 great Femme Soul sides here – topside is much-collected Xover Soul while flip is stunning Deep Soul…outta Chicago from, at a guess, 1970? Lovely condition and apart from that, I can tell you next to nothing else about this hopelessly obscure USA 7”… )

7052 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzXuHIuUDxY

Georges Garvarantz ‘Le Temps Des Loups’ (FM / France / 1960s / Ex+/VG+) £30 £20

( ‘Nuther rare OST recording from GG – man could churn em out, couldn’t he?! He also gave us ‘They Came To Rob Las Vegas’ and ‘Un Beau Monstre’ and others…this one was 7” only and the topside is a great, great uptempo funky/jazz jam that is heavy on the drama and searing brass plus obligatory darting strings and FX pedals all over the wah-wah guitar – brilliant actually – loads going on – sadly the vinyl ain’t M- has deffo had a good few plays and has a little bit of audible crackle so I’ve half-priced this in effect – the sleeve is as-new and just has mild wear and tear…cracking OST piece… )

7053 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-Tz03DapUE

Bobby Lee Fears ‘Exodus’ (Forward / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £25

( Somebody was trying to tell me last week that this was Northern Soul??!! W.T.F!? If this is Northern, I’ll never go to another NS gig again in my life…it’s pure Gospel Funk with heavy, heavy brass and a screaming, pulpit-bashing vocal performance from BLF (whoever he was?! Think he was in the Ohio Playes early on?) – totally unique and definitely one I’ve never run into before – minimal info on the label – and – the credits just confirmed my Gospel suspicions – co-written by yours, mine and God’s friend, Pat Boone…few surface scuffs but plays like a dream – actually looks like it needs a clean…. )

Irma Thomas ‘She’ll Never Be Your Wife’ (Fungus / USA / 1970s / Ex+) £5

7055

Morris Jefferson ‘One More Time’ / ‘It’s The Last Time Around For Me’ (Good Luck / USA / 1980 / Ex+) £15

( More niceness from the Windy C – this label is a subsidiary of GEC who gave us Starvue, Heaven and Earth etc etc – 2 classy midpacers on this 7” – wonderful instrumentation and a tremendous vocal performance from MJ – I believe he was actually lead singer in Heaven and Earth – anybody confirm/deny? Few minor scuffs – otherwise completely clean… )

7057

The Talismans ‘Tempo’ / ‘Africa’ (GT / France / 1970s / Ex+/Ex) £15

( Yet another completely absurd / bizarre record from France in the 1970s…I just don’t know what to make of some of these records – hard to make comparisons with anything else as I think stuff like this is just totally unique…? If there’s one comparison I could make, it’d be Max-B, same breathy vocals with congas high in the mix and an organ bubbling away in the background – crazy stuff –have a listen to the clip and decide for yourselves…. )

7058 – scan | soundfile

Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington ‘You Got Me Worried’ / ‘Good And Juicy’ (Hep’ Me / USA / 1960s / M-) £20

( Excellent (and rare!) Bluesy Funk which also has a strong dash of Soul in there too – I ain’t a big Blues fan but this is good – with Moogs, Clavs and some nice guitar work without being too dull and repetitive like a lot of Blues can be – a goodie folks – seems unplayed… )

7059 – scan | soundfile

Big Tom ‘No Thank You Mr, Pusher’ / ‘Upsy Daisy’ (Here & Now / USA / 1960s / M-) £75

( Beautiful M- copy of this indemand Mod / Psyche / Funk track that has grown in demand since it was picked up by Rob Bailey and included on his “Le Beat Bespoke” series a while back. Selling for £100++ elsewhere…impossibly obscure and in wonderful shape here…reminds me of Alan Trajan’s ‘Speak To Me, Clarissa’ – remember that? )

Roy Ayers ‘Virgo Vibes’ (Atlantic / 1967 / USA / Ex+/M-) £25

( Very, very early LP on Sir Roy – possibly only his second-ever Studio LP? Well – it’s a heavily Jazzual affair still cos Roy hadn’t gotten too mystic just yet – that was still a few years away – I’ve just listened to it all thru for probably the first time in 15 years and it’s a joy – just a wonderful LP from start to finish – Charles Tolliver, Joe Henderson, Buster Williams etc etc all in the band and this one’s a stamped promo copy too…. )

jf01 – scan | soundfile

John Blair ‘Mystical Soul’ (A&R / USA / 1970s / Ex/M-) £10

( “Cosmic Fiddlers” are few and far between – who we got? Michael White – check, John Blair – check – who else? Guess this has to go ito the ‘Cosmic Fusion’ bag cos that’s where this LP sits best – it’s a good listen but fairly avant-garde in parts – standout track for me was ‘I Don’t Know Why’ which meanders all over the place…rare label…’Golden Slumbers’ / ‘Oooh Child’ as below… )

Eddie Gomez ‘Down Stretch’ (Trio / Japan / 1976 / Ex+/M-) £40

jf06 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zWXbiJfjH8

Dodo Greene ‘My Hour Of Need’ (Blue Note / USA / 1960s / Ex+/M-) £15

jf13 – scan | soundfile

Byron Morris & Unity ‘Blow Thru Your Mind’ (EPJ / USA / 1970s / M-/M-) £20

( Sadly not a uber-rare OG 1974 press but a legitimate early-80s reissue – Acid Jazz begins and ends right here with the track ‘Kitty Bey’ – launched a scene all on it’s own…unplayed copy here…even this RI is becoming rare in itself… )

jf14 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9240RN-k1c

Ted Moses Quintet ‘Sidereal Time’ (Radio Canada / Canada / 1974 / M-/M-) £40

( Very fair price on this ACE Canadian Fusion / Jazz LP – stone, stone minter still in it’s shrinkwrap – even when I was going to Canada regularly on digging trips – I don’t think I ever found either of this guy’s LPs? ‘Just had a good listen thru this one as I type and it’s a belter ‘Hidden Strength’ is THE cut for me but the whole LP is well-worthy – don’t sleep, these LPs will f-l-y… )

Syl Johnson ‘Is It Because I’m Black’ (Twinight / USA / 1972 / Ex+/Ex) £200

( Beautiful, beautiful copy apart from some slight damage to the intro to ‘Is It Because I’m Black’ – looks like it has possibly been played with a bad stylus or something? Anyways – the sleeve is 100% lovely and apart from the glitch to the opening track, the vinyl is 100% too – PLEASE don’t buy this if a bit of crackle on the intro to ‘Is It Because I’m Black’ as I don’t want this coming back in the mail…now at a fantastic price… )

sf14 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB39DEWNHGI

Madhouse ‘Serve Em’ (Today / USA / 1973 / Ex+/Ex+) £30

( Again – I don’t see LPs like this one too often nowadays…it’s a madcap LP really – probably Today session men throwing it down in off-mike time – and – it’s an early Patrick Adams A&R / Production job too – so – the pedigree is there…it’s all kinda experimental and almost P-Funk in a way – ‘Nixon’s Ego Trip’ is the cut and it reminds me a lot of that kinda Soul Searchers / Lafayette Afro Rock Band-kinda sound if you catch my drift…lovely copy here… )

sf15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DauL9K5JwEA

The Now Generation ‘For The Good Times’ (Trojan / UK / 1974 / VG/VG+) £25

( So good for the trippy version of ‘People Make The World Go Round’ – so good, exho, FX, strings and layered vox – a killer – ‘Children Of The Night’ here is also a joy – instrumental version with more FX and echo – spooky stuff but so, so good – sadly this LP is far from M-/M-…sleeve is scruffy but intact and vinyl has had many plays but looks a lot worse than it actually is… )

sf18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDxi1NpaSqE

Bernard Purdie ‘Shaft’ (Prestige / USA / 1973 / Ex/M-) £30

sf19 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDs9QkKx8yM

Bernard Purdie and the Playboys ‘Stand By Me’ (Mega (gatefold) / USA / 1970s / Ex+/M-) £30

It doesn’t – so many good cuts here ‘Funky Mozart’ , ‘Whatcha See Is Whatchya Get’ , ‘Artificialness’ etc etc – again, outstanding shape… )

sf20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xc3UpoatN8

The Pazant Brothers ‘Loose And Juicy’ (Vanguard / USA / 1975 / Ex+/M-) £50

Gordon Staples and the String Thing ‘Strung Out’ (Motown / USA / 1970 / M-/M-) £40

( Want the truth? I’ve never actually even SEEN this LP before………..so hard to source and deffo one of the RAREST Motown LPs around – again – still in it’s shrinkwrap – Funk all the way with some amazing string arrangements from Gordon himself and a whole plethora of Motown stars on hand to lend support ‘Strung Out’ is the tune but the whole thing is simply bonkers…deep bass, clavs, funky drums and massive string washes – what more can ya want…also known by Motown “boffins” as ‘The Motown Strings’ )

sf26 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxriu9p2Aj8

Various Artists ‘INCredible Sound Of Gilles Peterson’ (Sony (triple vinyl) / UK / 1999 / Ex+/M-/M-/M-) £30

( Beautiful copy – barely a mark on wax or sleeve – and it’s a white promo too…again – not seen one of these around here in about 10+ years – huge funky breaks track here called ‘Both Ends Against The Middle’ which is a total breakbeat Funk banger – sleeve design is so bad it’s good if you know what I mean…? )

(5) Rock-Related & Folk-Funk LPs:

American Gypsy ‘American Gypsy’ (Chess / USA / 1975 / Ex/M-) £30

( Sleeve downgraded a little bit cos of ringwear – nothing more…where to start? Well – for me, this is right up there in the Funky/Rock Top 10 LPs of all time with Magnum, US 69 etc etc – side 1 of this LP is simply breathtaking…’Inside Out’ , ’10 000 Miles’ , ‘Lady Eleanor ‘ , ‘Golden Ring’ etc etc – just doesn’t get any better…recommended… )

rf01 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_ldcN084Yg

Philip Catherine ‘Guitars’ (Atlantic / UK / 1976 / M-/M-) £15

( Placebo band member and main Marc Moulin sidekick goes solo shock…this LP is actually produced by Moulin himself and he employs loads of the production techniques he uses on his own LP and the Placebo LPs he was involved in – floating keys, snappy drums, reverb on the pedal – the full works – whole LP is well worth a listen but standouts fro me were ‘We’ll Find A Way’ , ‘Homecomings’ and ‘Five Thousand Policemen’ – good, good LP… )

rf02 – scan | soundfile

Elkin & Nelson ‘Angeles Y Demonios’ (CBS (Dbl LP) / Spain / 1974 / VG/Ex/Ex) £20

( Rough copy so priced as low as I can manage to make it…guess you’d call it Cosmic Rock or something? Dunno how to label it but it’s a great listen – ‘Jibaro’ is the ‘hit’ here but the whole thing needs a listen…as I say – this is ruff so PLEASE don’t buy it if condition is a problem… )

rf04 – scan | soundfile

The Peddlers ‘Suite London’ (Philips / UK / 1972 / Ex+/Ex+) £50

( This one’s never sounded the same to me since Zero 7 nabbed it on their debut LP…only joking – still a monumental, fat-sounding LP with just so much going on ‘I Have Seen’ , ‘Under London Lights’ etc etc – startlingly good… )

rf05 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oioiG2eSJcY

Jess Roden ‘Jess Roden’ (Island / UK / 1974 / M-) £8

rf06 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik6o0q_qhqM

T.N.T.H ‘Let’s Go Children Of The Country’ (Barclay / France / 1970s / VG/VG) £20

( Unfortunately – a rough copy again – sleeve is well worn and vinyl has had many plays…BUT – it plays all thru….big Funky Rock cuts on here ‘Hippopatamus Pts 1 & 2’ , ‘T.N.T..H’ ‘In Memory’ , ‘Sabbath’ , ‘The Beach’ etc etc – again – pls don’t buy this if you are fussy on condition cos this is not pretty to look at… )

rf08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7F1T2hQwc4

The Seven Ages Of Man ‘Seven Ages Of Man’ (Rediffusion / UK / 1972 / Ex+/M-) £30

( Lord only knows what this was doing on Rediffusion Records in 1972 (they were TV rental people…!) but I’m sure glad they took the plunge…it’s got an amazing line-up including Harold McNair, Gordon Beck, Ian Green, Rosetta Hightower etc etc – the sample potential on this LP is endless – ‘The Age Of Conception’ is particularly amazing as it’s just pure Bass and Drum all the way – wonderful LP… )

rf09 – scan | soundfile

The Deirdre Wilson Tabac ‘The Deirdre Wilson Tabac’ (RCA / USA / 1970 / Ex+/M-) £75

lb08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klTDjVniRBo

Gal Costa ‘Cantar’ (Philips / Brazil / 1982 / Ex+/M-) £20 £10

( Has a airy, but not “elevator” bossa-esque, cover of Joao Donato’s ‘A Ra’ as well as the lovely tune ‘Lua Lua Lua Lua’ – a far cry from her ‘Tuareg’ and ‘Vou Recomecar’ days, but equally as good. Some amazing arrangments on here, especially with the strings…!! )

O Casarao ‘O Casarao OST’ (Som Livre / Brazil / 1976 / VG+/VG+) £15 £8

Also has a host of tunes from other obscure in house musicians as was so prevalent for these soundtracks in Brazil. Hard to find clean… )

lb12 – scan | soundfile

Os Novos Bahianos ‘O Ferro Na Boneca’ (RGE / Brazil / 1970 / VG+/VG+) £40 £20

( This groups first album, much more rock influenced than the rest (at the time they worshipped Hendrix, it took Joao Gilberto to come along and jam with them in their commune to introduce them to the Bossa Nova). ‘Baby Consuelo’ & ‘Colegio De Aplicacao’ are stand out tunes for me… )

Tom & Dito ‘Se Mandar M’Imbora Eu Fico’ (Som Livre / Brazil / 1974 / VG/EX+) £15 £8

( Nice “Samba Rock” album, whilst it’s the ‘Obrigado Corcovado’ LP that everyone fiends over (often at the expense of this LP’s low exposure) this one still has the samba rock that everyone would expect, but more refined than ‘Obrigado Corcovado’ if that makes sense…? )

Terms / conditions:

Reservation terms: Orders are held for 3 days ONLY. If you reserve a record I’ll definitely respond within 24 hours and I then expect you to reply accordingly and I’ll only remind people once. If I don’t hear back from you at all within the next 48 hours, I’ll assume you don’t actually want the records after all and offer them to the next in line. People are reserving expensive records and not getting back to me so I’m having to do introduce this strict rule.

Ordering: ONLY email orders will be accepted – no text / mobile / voicemail / Facebook / MSN / Twitter blah blah blah orders please.

Returns: I’m happy to accept genuine returns but you must let me know within 7 days of receipt or I may be unable to accept stuff back.

Shipping: I absolutely insist that all parcels are sent minimum ‘Signed For’ from now on. Too many parcels have gone “missing” over the past few months and it’s just not worth the stress if stuff is delayed / lost / stolen / smashed etc. If you are not prepared to pay for *minimum* Signed For post (and this applies to parcels shipped all over the world) then PLEASE don’t order from me. “Signed For” post covers you for loss/damage up to £42 anywhere in the world. If you wish to pay by any other method, please let me know and I’m sure we can sort something out. Unfortunately, Paypal costs me to use, so, if you are able to send your Paypal payment as a ‘Gift’ or as ‘Personal Payment Owed’ whereby I don’t lose anything in charges then PLEASE let me know when you make your order – okay. If you are unable to send it as a gift, then we must split the extra charges 50/50. I get charged 5% by Paypal as I have a Premier Account so I’ll be asking you to add 2.5% to the total and I myself will add this to the Invoice once your order is finalised. Sorry folks but I just cannot swallow the 5% loss anymore – especially as I’m trying hard to keep my prices down anyway.
