Brazilian LPs

I use the Record Collector standard to grade my records – as below:

M is ONLY for reissues / new releases
M- is a pretty much unplayed record for me – any obvious signs that a record has been played and I usually downgrade to an EX+
EX+ is a very strong grade for me – just showing some signs of being played but no noise / cue burn / crackle / styrene burn at all.
VG+ is for records that have obviously seen some wear and have had a good few plays and may even have light intro crackle but play very, very well.
VG is for records with quite a bit of wear and surface markings and some noise / crackle but still a very good player
VG- is my lowest grade and VG- records for me are in bad shape – lots of sound quality deterioration and many, many surface marks – not nice.

Leny Andrade ‘Registro’ (Columbia / Columbia / 1979 / Ex/M-) £10 £5

( First timer for me – loadsa tracks on here already and I’ve only just finished listening thru Side One!: ‘En Quero  Um Samba’ , ‘Vai De Vez’ , ‘Nos’ , ‘I Love You, You Love Me’ – this lady’s vocal phrasing is impeccable……. )

Oscar Brown, Jr & Luiz Henrique ‘Finding A New Friend’ (Fontana / USA / 1966 / Ex+/M-) £20 £10

( Nice LP – first time I’ve ever had a USA Fontana LP actually….great Bossa Nova version of ‘Reza’ on this – with a kinda ‘spoken’ word intro from OBJ and lovely vocal harmonies plus a great flute part and then there’s also a cool version of ‘Barra Limpa’ here which worked well this morning…immaculate shape, peeps… )

Jorge Mautner ‘Mil E Uma Noites De Bagda’ (Philips / Brazil / 1976 / VG/M-) £20 £10

( Rare LP on JM – strong input from Antonio Adolfo whom I respect hugely for his work with Brazuca etc etc – some wear/split to spine but sleeve ok apart from that – vinyl is A-1….’Samba Jambo’ is fantastic here – with a detuned violin a la Michael White style and a strong funky/club beat – ‘Mil E Uma Noites De Bagda’ title track also very, very good…’Samba Dos Messes’ also a treat for the ears…..’Txim Plam’ on as I type and also stunning – loads and loadsa nice gear on this one…JM himself in viola and berimbau… )

Hermeto Pascoal ‘Hermeto’ (Muse / USA / 1974 / VG+/M-) £12 £6

( First-timer for me…lovely Muse set from HP and a WD copy too….this guy’s stuff always has an ‘edge’ and this one’s almost ‘Strata-East’ in feel to my ears…all a good listen but ‘Yoghurt’ stood out for me today – very sonic sounding and ‘Bells’ also made me stand up and check the 1200s today too – sleeve is a bit off but wax is gleaming…lovely, lovely piece… )
